Thai basil

Description

This bold and aromatic Thai basil dish brings together crispy tofu, vibrant bell peppers, and a glossy, sweet-spicy sauce. Infused with dried red chilies, peanuts, and fresh Thai basil, it’s full of warmth, fragrance, and depth of flavor. Quick to make and deeply satisfying, this stir-fry is perfect served over jasmine rice or noodles for an easy yet wholesome meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp peanuts
  • 2 dried red chillies
  • 1 red pepper, cubed
  • 1 green pepper, cubed
  • 1/4 cup thai basil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce/coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp date palm jaggery/maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp red chili paste/homemade sambal sauce/chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 packet firm tofu, cut into squares
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

Directions

  1. For the sauce, mix soy sauce/coconut aminos, date palm jaggery/maple syrup, red chili paste/sambal sauce/chili sauce, and water.
  2. Take cubed tofu and place it in a bowl.
  3. Add cornstarch, salt, and pepper to the tofu and mix.
  4. Heat oil in a cast-iron pan, add the tofu pieces, and let them toast on all sides. Remove to a plate.
  5. Heat the oil, add the dried red chillies and the peanuts, and sauté.
  6. Add the peppers and sauté for a few seconds.
  7. Add the salt and sauce, mix well, and then add the toasted tofu. Let it simmer for a minute.
  8. Add fresh basil and turn off the heat.
